Two cutting-edge shadowgraphy shows from Europe Shadowgraphy plays an important role in the world of puppetry, and these two productions, created by a young French–German artists’ collective and a British solo entertainer, stand apart for their imaginative approaches and groundbreaking techniques. The first performance opens with a sense of pure magic, as two brilliant female artists push the boundaries of what objects and shadows can express. Meanwhile, you may find yourself wondering how a delightfully cheerful gentleman manages to visualise entire worlds using nothing but his hands. Surely you will find yourself absorbed in these shadowgraphy performances, yet do not forget that you, too, carry a shadow of your own. Even after the performances have ended, you will not be alone, but accompanied by your shadow. In this sense, these works not only delight children, but also offer a gentle reminder to adult audiences: even as you find your own way through everyday life, you are never truly alone.
Note: As this programme is a double bill, a set change is required between the two performances. During this extended interval, we warmly recommend spending time at the Festival Centre, just a five-minute walk from the theatre, where you can enjoy a range of delicious drinks and refreshments.
